Pune: Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital, Fatima Nagar, has launched Roots to Wings, a comprehensive Child Development Department offering multi-disciplinary support for children with developmental and learning challenges.
The new centre integrates paediatric neurology, paediatrics and multiple therapy services under one roof, ensuring structured assessments, early intervention and long-term follow-up without the need for families to visit multiple clinics.
Early Screening and Integrated Care at Roots to Wings
The Roots to Wings centre is designed for all children, including those with neurodivergent developmental profiles or learning differences.

It provides early screening assessments to identify potential developmental delays and facilitate timely medical or therapeutic interventions. Regular developmental check-ups help determine whether a child is progressing as expected or requires additional support.
A distinctive feature of the centre is its “printing gallery”, which displays children’s artwork and activity sheets in sequence. This visual record allows clinicians and parents to track improvements in fine motor skills, coordination and confidence, offering a simple way to follow each child’s developmental journey.
The centre also guides first-time parents by helping them understand normal developmental patterns and age-appropriate milestones.
Specialised Team Leads Roots to Wings Services
The Roots to Wings Child Development Department is headed by Consultant Occupational Therapist Dr Zainab Mithaiwala. The core medical team includes Paediatric Neurologist Dr Abhijit Botre, Consultant Paediatrician Dr Sandesh Runwal and Neonatologist & Paediatrician Dr Ashwin Borade.
They are supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists and special educators.
The centre provides comprehensive services such as developmental and behavioural assessments; physiotherapy; occupational, speech and language therapies; psychological counselling; and remedial education. Individualised therapy objectives are set after detailed evaluations and reviewed routinely to monitor progress.

Parent-training sessions, group workshops and awareness programmes for schools and neighbourhood communities form a key part of the centre’s outreach efforts.
These initiatives help identify red flags early and ensure children receive timely referrals. As part of its mission, Inamdar Hospital also trains kindergarten teachers to recognise developmental and emotional concerns, with some sessions conducted alongside group therapy programmes for continuity between classroom and clinical care.
Vision Behind Roots to Wings
Speaking about the vision for Roots to Wings, Dr Zainab Mithaiwala said that many parents sense early concerns but are unsure where to seek guidance.
The department aims to provide accurate information, timely intervention and a supportive environment where families feel understood and never judged.
The team emphasises that neurodevelopmental differences – such as communication delays, learning difficulties or attention-related concerns – are not behavioural faults but conditions that benefit significantly from early recognition and structured support.
They encourage parents to consider visiting a child development centre even when signs seem subtle, noting that early clarity often becomes a lifelong benefit.
The broader mission of Roots to Wings is to contribute to a healthier, happier next generation by ensuring every child receives timely developmental support and no family misses early opportunities for intervention.
